The Pros And Cons Of Using Battery Lights Rather Than Mains Powered Lights
Christmas lights actually started as something which only the rich could afford. Centuries ago, what the rich people did was to place ornaments over a tree, and then strategically place candles which were either glued to the tree or stuck with pins to make the candles stay in place. This was the older version of Christmas lights, and was definitely not a fun one. There were a lot of instances wherein the trees would burn and was basically a hazardous way to celebrate Christmas. Also, since candles were a very important and expensive commodity at the time since there was no electricity yet, not everybody could afford to decorate and light their trees.
Thankfully, with the advancement of modern technology, Christmas tree lights are no longer candles and also offer a lot more choices in terms of style and colour. The lights available today also consume less electricity compared to when electric Christmas lights were first invented. There are also battery lights and outdoor fairy lights available to suit the needs and preferences of different people.
A lot of us are familiar with the regular Christmas tree lights which need to be plugged into a wall outlet for it to light up and work. As such, a lot of people had to place their Christmas trees where there was a power outlet nearby, or had to use extension cords which caused cables or cords lurking around. Fortunately, there are now battery lights which give people a lot more flexibility in terms of decorating as you can practically place these lights anywhere and not have to worry about whether there is a power outlet nearby. These battery lights are also great for outdoor use and give a clean and uncluttered look to the decorated, lit area.
As mentioned earlier, one of the advantages of using battery lights is the fact that you can use it anywhere. You can use battery lights as the centrepiece of a table, drape them over curtains and windows, and even use them outdoors as part of your garden lights. You would not have any power cords or extension cords hanging around which could potentially cause you or your guests to trip over them. However, compared to regular electricity powered lights, battery lights need constant attention to ensure that there is still enough power in the batteries for the lights. Plus, how long the lights remain lit is dependent on the battery, compared with electricity powered lights which can stay lit for as long as no power outages occur.
Most of the time, battery lights are smaller and shorter, and have fewer bulbs compared with electricity powered lights. This is because the manufacturers of battery lights need to consider how many bulbs the batteries can support before becoming exhausted. As a result, you cannot cover as much area to light as you would be able to with regular electricity powered light, and you would end up needing to purchase more lights to cover all of the area you want to decorate.
In terms of ease of installation and use, nothing beats battery lights. They are very user friendly and pretty much all you need to do is to place fresh batteries, place the lights over the area you want to decorate, and you are all set. You do not need to worry about getting an outdoor power cord or extension, or have to position the lights in a way that they reach your wall socket. They also offer more decorating options like on wreaths, over tables, draped over curtains, and other places where regular lights which need to be plugged in would cause that particular area to look cluttered and messy. Plus, you would also need to exert extra effort in hiding the power cords, something you will not have to worry about with battery lights.
Thanks to modern technology, battery lights and other forms of lighting like LED lights, outdoor fairy lights, and even energy efficient Christmas tree lights are now available. These lights give you a lot more flexibility and options in terms of decorating the inside and outside of your home, as well as your garden and other areas you would like to spice up.

In the Garden $11.98 It would probably be an exaggeration to say that Yusef Lateef is underrated; the veteran saxophonist has long commanded a loyal, enthusiastic following. But it might be safe to say that some historians in the jazz world don’t adequately explain just how much of an innovator he is. Lateef was one of the very first people to play modal post-bop — he certainly deserves as much credit as Miles Davis and John Coltrane in that area — and his world music-influenced experiments of the late ’50s were quite advanced for their time. Long after the ’50s, world music continued to fascinate Lateef — and it’s certainly a big part of what he does on In the Garden. Recorded live at the Electric Lodge in Venice, CA (a Los Angeles suburb) on March 1-2, 2003, In the Garden finds an 82-year-old Lateef leading a large ensemble that is mindful of African, Middle Eastern, and Asian music. Lateef not only plays the tenor sax on these performances — he’s also heard on a variety of flutes — and his sidemen play everything from flutes and clarinets to traditional string and percussion instruments from Africa and Asia. Those who are seriously into world music might recognize the sound of the Indian bansuri flute, or African udu drums, but even if you can’t pick out all the instruments, it is obvious that Lateef and his colleagues are thinking globally throughout this rewarding two-CD set. These performances tend to be abstract, sometimes drawing on free jazz. But those who are adventurous enough to go along for the ride will find a lot to enjoy about In the Garden. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi Performers: Miles Shrewsbery – Frame Drum, Shaker, Tabla, Udu; Paul Sherman – Baroque Oboe, Horn (English), Oboe; Ralph Jones – Hichiriki, Bamboo Trumpet, Ney, Flute (Alto), Flute; Ralph Jones Band – Bamboo Trumpet, Hichiriki, Ney, Flute (Alto), Flute; Adam Rudolph – Overtone Flute, Cajon, Djembe, Balafon, Talking Drum, Hand Drums, Conga, Vocals; Andres Renteria – Bowls, Cajon, Bata, Shaker; Bennie Maupin – Bugle, Shakuhachi, Rainstick, Bamboo Flute, Flute (Alto), Clarinet ( |

The Garden $16.78 The Garden (1994) is Michael Nesmith’s companion release to The Prison (1974). Both works are a departure from his more traditional releases, as the music is specifically designed to aurally complement an equally engaging written novella/short story — included in the extended liner notes booklet. The idea is for consumers to commence reading Nesmith’s prose while simultaneously listening to the recording. The concept may at first seem unusual, although the results are nothing short of profound. No special speed-reading skills are required. Rather, the most useful thing that a potential enthusiast can bring to the multimedia project is an open mind, sense of adventure, and respect for the infinite possibilities inherent within such an subtly demanding correlation . As Nesmith is quick to point out in his preface, The Garden is not a sequel in the strictest sense of the term — meaning that there isn’t a true continuation of the narrative which began in The Prison. Instead, they are correlated thematically and stylistically as both are presented in a linear and consecutive approach. Each of The Garden’s seven chapters are also visually enhanced, if not somewhat inspired by a series of Claude Monet paintings. There is a much more subtle connection between the prose and these unqualified masterworks, yet he is able to relate them in a contextual sense. The music retains Nesmith’s inimitable and signature sound, yet compared to his most concurrent effort, Tropical Campfires (1992), The Garden is exceedingly ethereal and more often than not instrumental. There are vocals that feature not only the artist, but also his children Jason — who is likewise the central character in the short story — Christian, and Jessica. The backing band also includes Christian Nesmith as well as most of the musicians the senior Nez had collaborated with on the aforementioned Tropical Campfires, most notably Desert Rose Band string man John Jorgenson (guitar/sax/bassoon/mandolin/oboe/bandurila/mandocello), Joe Chemay (bass), and John Hobbs (keyboards), as well as studio maven Sid Page (violin). ~ Lindsay Planer, Rovi Performers: Michael Nesmith – Guitar (12 String Acoustic), Lead, Vocals, Guitar (Acoustic); John Jorgenson – Bassoon, Mandocello, Oboe, Vocals (Background), Mandolin, Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar (Electric), Sax (Soprano); John Yoakum – Horn (English), Oboe; Donna Davidson – Vocals (Background); Gene Miller – Vocals (Background); Jason Nesmith – Vocals (Background); |
